In this activity you will be required to accurately construct a model of one of the molecules below from Styrofoam balls and toothpicks or skewers (skewers work better). You must colour code (i.e. paint) each atom according to the legend below. You will be using knowledge of VSEPR theory to assemble the model from scratch and will be evaluated based on the accuracy of the model itself. If you find a molecule or molecules of comparable complexity that you would rather build, please see me for approval.
Include a legend for your model that identifies each functional group and how many of each are present in your model when you bring it in.
You can build the model in either ball & stick or spacefill style.
Click here and download the 3D model kit to practice VSEPR shapes. You may have to update or download Java to run the program. This will help you greatly.
